A Surrey Cottage
He studied at the engraver and illustrator Ebenezer Landolza, but he worked primarily in watercolor.
The initial fame came to Foster because of his active work for the popular British magazines, including the magazine "Punch". He also illustrated many novels and poetry collections.
In the future, Foster was also a very successful landscape painter, mostly devoting himself kinds of Surrey, but also leaving many species of the Rhine, Venice, lakes Switzerland.
In no way resembling the manner of the Pre-Raphaelites, Foster was a friend of Burne-Jones and William Morris, and even made designer for the house of the latter.
