John Henry Tuoktmen (Eng. John Henry Twachtman) - American Impressionist painter. Tuoktmen began to study painting under the guidance of Frank Duveneck. In 1875, he, like other young American artists, he went to continue their education in Europe. He studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, then lived in Venice. He painted mostly landscapes.
After a brief stay in the United States the artist once again come to Europe. He continued his studies in Paris (in 1883-85 gg.). Here hone skills Tuoktmena, possession with all its color shades. In 1886 the master returns home and lives on a farm near Greenwich in Connecticut. Farm itself, her house, orchard and garden repeatedly reflected in landscape paintings Tuoktmena, in which the artist creates his own individual, impressionistic style.
From 1889 until his death Tuoktmen taught painting at the Art Students League of course, was a created in 1897 in New York impressionist group "Ten American artists."
